Beetham & Hale Sports Day 2026

Beetham and Hale Sports Day returned for another fantastic community event, bringing together local families, competitors, volunteers and visitors for a day of traditional sporting fun.

Despite the rain, there was a brilliant turnout, with plenty of enthusiastic competitors taking part throughout the day. The annual programme included children’s races, the children’s cross-country and the much-loved fell race, with participants of all ages getting involved and giving it their best.

This year, The Wheatsheaf and Hole Inn One also joined in the fun by hosting a Longest Drive competition in the golf simulator. Competitors had three attempts to record their longest drive, with all proceeds donated to Beetham Sports Charity.

The competition was won by our local resident and neighbour, Paul, with an impressive drive of 225 yards. Paul received a fantastic prize of 10 free hours in the Hole Inn One golf simulator. Congratulations, Paul, and thank you to everyone who took part and helped raise money for the charity.

The weather may not have been perfect, but it certainly didn’t dampen anyone’s spirits. The encouragement from spectators, determination of the competitors and hard work of the organisers created a wonderful atmosphere and made the day another memorable occasion for the villages of Beetham and Hale.

Beetham and Hale Sports Day has been part of village life since 1908, making it a remarkable local tradition that has continued for well over a century. Events like this play such an important role in bringing the community together and creating lasting memories for each new generation.

The day would not be possible without the dedication of the committee, volunteers and local residents who give up their time to organise the races, prepare the grounds, run the activities and make sure everything goes smoothly. The event was also generously supported by local businesses and individuals whose contributions help this historic village tradition continue year after year.

A huge thank you must go to everyone who helped organise and support the day, as well as everyone who braved the rain to compete, cheer from the sidelines or simply enjoy the occasion.

Congratulations to all the competitors and race winners. We are already looking forward to another wonderful Beetham and Hale Sports Day next year!
